Expect to double up your enjoyment with the Dia de la Independencia (Independence Day) celebration, which also occurs in the month of September. Along with a nationally televised speech from the President on September 16th, the celebrations on this day also includes a plethora of food, and plenty of beer & tequila. #2 Cancun Carnival (Carnaval)
 
This festival takes place 46 days before Easter Sunday. The carnival marks the beginning of Lent for the Catholic religion which is predominant in Mexico and is a five-day celebration of parades, floats and dance performance in the streets. Caribbean style dancers dressed in multicolored costumes perform during the parade in decorated cars. Various concerts with Caribbean music and local artists are organized and other small festivities take places throughout the Cancun area during this celebration.

#3 Semana Santa
 
Semana Santa consists of the last week of Lent (last week before Easter or Holy Week), so the event takes on special significance in the Catholic religion. Semana Santa is Cancun's second busiest time of the year after New Year's Eve. Easter festivities take place all around Cancun and display a strong religious theme. Semana Santa is a great time to be in Cancun and have fun with friendly local Mexicans.

#4 La Fiesta de Playa
 
If you come to Cancun in mid-August you'll be able to enjoy La Fiesta de Playa festival. Cancun hosts La Fiesta De Playa, which means a beach party, that is a bit different from any other. You can participate in and attend various live concerts, competitions where the celebration never stops! After celebrating this beach party, make sure you head to Isla Mujeres for a celebration of its Founding Day on August 17. #5 Christmas & New Year's Eve
 
Christmas is celebrated with great enthusiasm in all parts of the world, and Mexico is no exception. Christmas and New Year's Eve is the busiest time of the year for Cancun destinations. The city lights up with colorful lights and flowers. Christmas Eve in Mexico is called Nochebuena. The Tourism Department and the Visitors and Convention Bureau organize different activities all over Cancun and the Riviera Maya, such as the performance of the City Choir and several singers perform in concerts, and even various restaurants & clubs host liveliest festivities all night.
